John R. Mizicko, Raquel Salati, Eurofins BioDiagnostics
"Eurofins BioDiagnostics sees a great value in CPPSI to the seed industry in the service and information it provides. Bringing harmonization to plant differentials and pathogen isolates to be used in resistance screening is incredibly important and helps put all of the industry on the same playing field. We have used some of the services provided by CPPSI and appreciate the reasonable costs and uniformity of the materials obtained. We will continue to be a customer and possibly become a member in the near future." - 2/26/2020
Allen Van Deynze, Director, Seed Biotechnology Center
“ The Collaboration for Plant Pathogen Strain Identification has been a crucial organization to standardize and make available plant pathogen strain identification, testing procedures and supporting materials while working worldwide with similar organizations, the seed industry and societies.”
“The leadership and experience that Dr. Phyllis Himmel provides for the Collaboration for Plant Pathogen Strain Identification has been critical to its success.” - 3/2/2020
Valérie Grimault, Head of the Plant Pathology Lab, GEVES Dominique Rousseau, MATREF coordinator, GEVES
“The CPPSI initiative is of utmost importance to provide reference material useful to facilitate the identification of pathogens and evaluate disease resistance. Notably, its activities have influence beyond the US, as pests do not know frontiers. In Europe, several initiatives exist, like MATREF from GEVES. We are glad to collaborate with CPPSI to characterize some pathosystems to define reference materials for Europe and the U.S.A., as we fruitfully did during the Harmores3 project. We also coordinate Harmorescoll, a project dedicated to set up a harmonized system for European collections of reference isolates, controls and differentials to facilitate disease resistance testing. CPPSI will be an ally of choice to contribute to plant health.” - 6/25/2020
Rafael Jordan Ramirez, BASF
"Effective field resistance of vegetable crops is dependent of genetic bases of plant-pathogen recognition. In that framework, it is critical the correct identification of the pathogen, including all its genetic and physiological variants that could interact differently with the plant that is being parasitized. Thus, the labor of CPPSI about pathogens race and strain naming is crucial for vegetable seeds companies that handle the commercial exploitation of resistances. That clarity and harmonization of concepts and nomenclature will be essential for the growers to select the resistance most suitable for the diseases happening in their crops." - 6/25/2020
